Returning from the highlands had a brief visit to Coventry with just enough time to take a few quick pics of the old St Michael’s Cathedral bombed out during raids in World War II and the new St Michael’s built in the 1950s
I have just spend a few days traveling through the highlands of Scotland surprisingly the weather was kind and mostly rained while driving and not while walking, first stop Loch Lomond.
Back on the road again and off to Ballachullish for a bit of genealogy and slate quarrying.
Then to the base of operations Fort Augustus and Loch Ness
While in Fort Augustus there had to be a visit to the Rare Breeds Centre at just £2 a bargain although looking at the pics I should have made note of the animals I saw and why they were rare as they looked normal to me.
Just up from Fort Augustus on the way to Oich along the Caledonian Canal is Cullochy Lock, a single lock but beautifully kept by the local lock keeper who has plenty of stories to tell.
Heading around Loch Ness you come across Urquhart Castle, apparently this used to be one of the largest castles in Scotland but is now pretty much all ruins apart from one tower. The lone piper does add to the atmosphere while enjoying the views over the loch.
Through Inverness and then down the other side of the loch you come across the Falls Of Foyers that flow from the River Foyers into Loch Ness.
And finally a steam train ride from Fort William To Mallaig, due to a combination of steam covered windows, tree lined track and sporadic rain showers it was not that easy to take pictures but here are a few anyway.

On the way home I shared a tube with Einstein, well ok not quite but it was close.

The V&A is currently exhibiting work created by seven architects spread throughout the globe based on the theme of refuge and retreat.
Below are a few pics of some of these and a couple of other things I spied as I wondered through.
